Black Hills Harley Davidson -
Knology’s telecommunication capabilities made
it possible for Black Hills Harley Davidson to expand
their business before their most profitable time of year,
the Sturgis Rally 2005.
In June 2005, Jim Burgess, owner of Black Hills Harley
Davidson, wished to expand his business to Sturgis and
the Buffalo Chip Campground. The campground, which is
located outside of Sturgis, did not have broadband capabilities.
In order to make this happen, Knology employees visited
the campground and met with Burgess and the Buffalo Chip
owners. In less than five weeks Knology provided
Burgess with phone and Internet capabilities to run a
full-service retail store from the campground.
“This couldn’t have been done with a company
located outside of Rapid City,” said Burgess.
Knology’s world class high-speed broadband,
multi-line business services and local employees made
it possible for Burgess to conduct business as if he
were at his main store, located in Rapid City. Burgess
was able to set up a scaled-down version of his Rapid
City Harley Davidson with a large fiber connection which
was placed from Sturgis to the new Buffalo Chip store.
Because of that fiber, Harley Davidson was able to attain
a 90 point sale at one time. “This incredible number
is more than Wal-Mart attains at one time,” said
Burgess.
“The employees are more responsive to my communication
needs than any other company. My needs are always changing,
and I am always taken care of,” Burgess said. “I
require a local company with the communication capabilities
of Knology, because my network is so complex, I can
only think of a few that are more complex in the area.
I couldn’t do what I do without them.”
