What is Parental Control?

Parental Control feature on your digital cable settop box is used to block programs by channel, program rating, or time of day. You can select the channels, ratings, or times to block from the General Settings screen. The channel banner shows a padlock if any part of the program is blocked by time or rating.

You set up Parental Control and turn it on and off for the entire system by entering your Personal Identification Number (PIN). When you turn the Parental Control feature on, you cannot view blocked programs. When the Parental Control feature is off, the blocks are no longer in effect and you can view all channels and programs. The unlock padlock is shown.

How to Change your Parental Blocking PIN:

You can enable, disable, or change your Blocking PIN from the General Settings menu.

1. From the Interactive Program Guide, press the SETTINGS button on the remote control, or from a television program, press the SETTINGS button twice.

2. At the General Settings menu, press the UP or DOWN buttons to highlight Block: PIN, then press the SELECT button.



3. Press the UP or Down button to highlight Change, then press the SELECT button.

4. Enter your CURRENT PIN.

5. Enter your NEW PIN

6. Re-enter you new PIN to CONFIRM.

7. Press the EXIT button to return to watching television

How to Block Channels:

1. From the Interactive Program Guide, press the SETTINGS button on the remote control, or from a television program, press the SETTINGS button twice.



2. At the General Settings menu, press the UP or DOWN buttons to highlight Block: Channels, then press the SELECT button.

3. Enter your Parental Control PIN, if required.

4. Use the UP or Down arrow buttons to highlight each channel you want to block.

5. Press the SELECT button. The channel ID is listed in the column on the right and a lock appears in the Channels list by each channel you selected.

Note: You can press the SELECT button again to unblock the channel.

6. Continue highlighting and selecting channels you want to block.

7. When all channels that you want to block have a padlock shown, press the A button to accept.

Note: Blocks do not take effect until you turn Parental Control on.

8. To turn the Parental Control feature on and off, follow the instructions for How To Turn Parental Control On or Off.

9. Press the EXIT button to return to watching television.

How To Block Ratings:

To select ratings you want to block, follow these steps.

1. From the Interactive Program Guide, press the SETTINGS button on the remote control, or from a television program, press the SETTINGS button twice.

2. At the General Settings menu, press the UP or DOWN buttons to highlight Block: Ratings, then press the SELECT button.



3. Enter your Parental Control PIN, if required.

4. Use the UP or Down arrow buttons to highlight the rating you want to block.

5. Press the SELECT button to block the highlighted rating, or press B to block the rating and all ratings that follow the selected rating in the list on the screen.

Note: Blocking ratings have a padlock next to them.

You can press the SELECT button again to unblock the channel.

6. Continue highlighting and selecting ratings you want to block.

7. When all ratings that you want to block have a padlock shown, press the A button to accept.

Note: Blocks do not take effect until you turn Parental Control on.

8. To turn the Parental Control feature on and off, follow the instructions for How To Turn Parental Control On or Off.

9. Press the EXIT button to return to watching television.

How To Block Programs by Time of Day:

You can block programs by setting Block: Time New for a particular time range, for a single day, a range of days or a day of the week such as every Saturday. You can set block timers for a maximum of 14 days in the future.

1. From the Interactive Program Guide, press the SETTINGS button on the remote control, or from a television program, press the SETTINGS button twice.



2. At the General Settings menu, press the UP or DOWN buttons to highlight Block: Time New, then press the SELECT button.

3. Enter your Parental Control PIN, if required.

4. Use the UP or Down arrow buttons to highlight the date you want to block, then press the SELECT button.

5. In the START column, change the time shown to the time you want the block to start:

a. Use the RIGHT and LEFT arrows to highlight a setting.

b. Press the UP and DOWN arrows to change each setting.

c. When the correct START time is shown, press the SELECT button.

6. In the STOP column, change the time shown to the time you want the block to end:

a. Use the RIGHT and LEFT arrows to highlight a setting to change.

b. Press the UP and DOWN arrows to change each setting.

c. When the correct STOP time is shown, press the A button to accept.

7. Press the EXIT button to return to watching television.

Note: To clear a block time, highlight the Block: Time #, the # representing the number of the time period to clear. Press the C button.

How To Watch a Blocked Program:

Parental Control allows you to watch a blocked program by completing the following steps.

1. Tune to a blocked channel.

2. Press SELECT.

3. Enter your parental control PIN.

How To Turn Parental Control On or Off:



When Parental Control is on, the Blocks set up earlier are enabled–blocked channels or programs are locked out. A padlock symbol on the channel banner shows that a channel or program is blocked. When parental blocking is off, an open or unlocked padlock symbol on the channel banner identifies each parental blocking channel or program.

Important! When you turn off Parental Control, all channels, ratings, and times are unblocked.

Note: Before using Parental Control, you must set up the channels, times, or ratings you want to block. See How To Block Channels, How To Block Ratings, and How To Block Programs by Time of Day, earlier in this section.

1. While watching any television program full-screen, press he SETTINGS button.

2. At the Quick Setting menu, press the UP and Down arrow buttons to highlight Turn OFF/ON Parental Controls. (This line changes to show whether Parental Control is off or on.)

3. Press the SELECT button to change the setting to ON or OFF. The PIN Entry screen appears.

4. Enter your Parental Control PIN.

Note: Each time you power off the settop box, the Parental Control is automatically turned ON, if it is set up.
