  • Has created files to publish to the web.
This tutorial will show you:
  • How to download and set up the Fetch FTP utility.
  • How to access your web directory on Knology.
  • How to upload your documents to Knology.

Step 1:
Download Fetch.

. Fetch allows novice users to utilize the capabilities of FTP without having to know all the details of the protocol itself. This is an introduction to using this application to upload your files to your web space. For more detailed information, please read the help files included with the program. You will need to have created a document either in your HTML editor, text editor, or WYSIWYG program, and have it saved to a location on your hard drive where you can easily find it when you are logged in to the web server with Fetch.

Step 2:
Install Fetch.

Double click the icon from the previous step to launch the installer. The installer box will appear. Click on "Continue" after reading the information in the dialog box.
Choose Fetch 3.0.3 Standard - unless you see one that you think would be more appropriate for your system. Then click on "Install".
Once you click on "Create", the software will be installed for you in the directory you have specified.

Step 3:
Set up Fetch.
Launch the Fetch program by double clicking on its icon. The new connection screen will open. Fill in the fields with the information below.
Host: www.iw.net
User ID: your username
Password: your password
Directory: leave this blank
With all the correct information in the fields, click ok. You will then establish an FTP connection with our server.

Step 4:
Using Fetch You will now have a screen that has a listing of files on the left, and status of the connection on the right. You also have a few buttons to click. One is "get file" and one is "put file". "Put file,” means to upload a file from your local machine to the FTP server."Get file" means to download a file from the FTP server to your local machine.

To upload documents to your Knology free web space:
It is very important that the first file you upload, or the "home" page is named "index.html" or "index.htm" without the quotes. If it is not, you will not be able to view the files from the web.
You will need to upload to the web directory.
Click on the "Put" button,
Find the file you want to upload on your hard drive.
Click on the open button.
Save file as/format.
and click "OK".
Once you have uploaded the files, you may view them by going to your web address, which will be http://www.iw.net/~yourusername where your username is the user ID you use to log in to the Internet or your e-mail. Example:
If your e-mail address is username@iw.net then your web address would be http://www.iw.net/~username

To create a new directory on the FTP server:
Make sure you are in the correct directory and make sure the window to the left is active. If necessary, click in it with the mouse. Go to the menu bar and select

Directories > Create new directory.. Enter a name for this directory and click "OK"
Note: If you have followed the instructions here and your web folder does not appear when you log in. You can create your own web folder or please call our technical support team at 888-745-2888 for assistance.
