Virus Filter

To help protect your computer from becoming infected with a potentially damaging e-mail, Knology has installed a virus filter. This filter is the first line of defense that should work alongside your local virus protection software. Knology updates its known virus database 3 times a day to ensure our servers are as current as possible. This allows the filter to quarantine the majority of the known viruses being transmitted through e-mail.

When an e-mail is sent to a Knology user, it will be run through our virus filter. If the message contains a virus that is documented in our database, it will not be delivered. Rather, it will be quarantined and a message will be sent to the user(s) the message was intended to reach. The subject line of the message will contain the following: Virus quarantined by Knology Systems Administration. This message is virus free, so it is safe to open. In the “From” line you will see the sender’s address. The body will list the original subject line and the virus that was stopped from reaching your computer.

Some viruses are designed to hide or “spoof” the sender’s address, so you may not know who sent the message. Unfortunately there is little Knology can do to stop this or record who the original sender was. In this event, please rest assured that the virus has been blocked.
